The Selecter - (Set time: 9:15 PM)
The Selecter
Legendary 2-Tone artists, The Selecter, release their new studio album ‘Subculture’, on 15th June 2015.

Recorded and produced by Neil Pyzer and expertly mixed by "Prince Fatty" (Hollie Cook, Lily Allen, Graham Coxon & Gregory Isaacs etc ), ‘Subculture’ is the calling card of a ‘classic’ band that are completely tuned into the issues and challenges of the modern world.

Since re-forming a half-decade ago, The Selecter have become increasingly aware that their championing of 2-Tone, Ska, Reggae & Soul is firmly rooted outside of today’s mainstream genres.

Despite this, with over 110,000 Facebook fans and tens of thousands more across other networks, The Selecter’s following is worldwide and enduring. They remain figureheads for Skinheads, Mods, Punks, Northern-Soulers, Rude Boys & Girls and the many other groups who define themselves at variance with the status quo.

Led by their iconic frontwoman Pauline Black, whose recent series of shows on BBC 6Music were hugely well received, and whose book ‘Black By Design’ continues to sell in droves worldwide, The Selecter have headlined hundreds of gigs, played Glastonbury, Isle Of Wight & Coachella festivals amongst hundreds more, and performed extensively across Europe, USA, Canada, Australia & New Zealand.

The Selecter is not just Pauline Black though; alongside an incredible talented band of musicians, including Neil Pyzer (Spear Of Destiny) Will Crewdson (Rachel Stamp) and they are co-fronted by original member Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson (who features extensively on Subculture). Pauline and Gaps will both be joining Jools Holland on an extensive tour of the UK this autumn.

The world has moved on since 2-tone arrived on the scene in 1979, and The Selecter have committed to moving right along with it. For them it is about moving away from nostalgia debates and focusing on the contemporary and revitalizing optimism that their live performance engenders in audiences all over the world. It’s in their DNA.
The Upbeat - (Set time: 8:00 PM)
The Upbeat
The Upbeat was formed in 1985, and for the past 25 years has been pumping out a unique blend of ska, roots reggae, and rocksteady, with politically and environmentally conscious lyrics. In 1993, driven by their desire to promote the music they loved, The Upbeat released their debut 5 track demo under the moniker “Upbeat Recordings”. This stark freshman effort garnered them airplay across the country and a series of compilation offers from the likes of Epitaph/Hellcat Records, Moon Records, and SRH Productions.

In 1995, the band released their first full length album and sold 5,000+ units locally. By this time their live reputation preceded them, sending them into a series of surf, skate and snowboard videos including Transworld Video Magazine and The Fox Sports Network. This brought the band even further praise, securing them a world-wide fan base and setting the stage for the band’s subsequent, prolific west coast touring. During this time, The Upbeat shared the stage with the likes of such varied artists as The Skatalites, Burning Spear, Sublime, Sugar Ray, No Doubt, Bad Manners, The Specials, The Wailers, Fishbone, Steel Pulse, and The Twinkle Brothers, to name a few.

In 2000, The Upbeat released their second album, "Backyard Knowledge", and ten years later, a host of new songs were released on their album, "Shuku", and is proof that this dedicated lineup still has all the passion they started with, so many years ago.
