The Black Seeds
''The Black Seeds represent the forefront of reggae today and tomorrow’’ -

Long established as one of New Zealand's top bands, South Pacific reggae-soul shakers The Black Seeds announce their long awaited return to the U.S for a run of West Coast dates in June.

Described by Clash Magazine as "one of the best live reggae acts on the planet," The Black Seeds infuse their legendary eight-piece live show with raw energy and good vibes wherever they go, fueling multi-platinum sales and a growing worldwide following. With countless sold out tours behind them and performances at many of the world’s leading festivals, The Black Seeds live show delivers a party for the soul every time.

With their much-anticipated new album set for release in September (via Easy Star Records) The Black Seeds’ return to the U.S in June will be their first in 5 years. Fans can expect their first taste of the album with the first single set to drop in May.

While firmly based in the island grooves that inspired the birth of the band over a decade ago, The Black Seeds' sound casts a wide net, layering funk, soul, Afrobeat, and other eclectic elements over their dub/reggae foundations. It's "contemporary groove music with influences from soul and funk and reggae rhythms – and even rock..." explains guitarist/vocalist Barnaby Weir.

The band first began making their mark in North America in 2009 after the release of their fourth album Solid Ground through the trailblazing label Easy Star Records. The album debuted in the top 15 of the Billboard reggae charts and received critical acclaim, including being named Soul Album of the Year by's Dennis Cook. The Huffington Post called it "a damn fine record…thick, bottom-heavy, and melodic." The album also spent eight consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of CMJ's World Music charts, five weeks in the overall CMJ Top 200, and was supported by a successful U.S. tour with John Brown's Body.
The band continued to make strides with their 2012 Dust And Dirt album, which Easy Star released in conjunction with a North American release of the band’s entire back catalog. The Santa Barbara Independent declared, “The Black Seeds are a prime example of a group that gets it right and continues to push reggae forward in new, exciting directions," while described the band as "breaking barriers in the bestest of ways with their unique blend of funk with a reggae backbone." The album also received rave reviews in Europe, with Rolling Stone Germany heralding the group as "the best reggae band on the planet right now." The album achieved the band’s best ever chart positions in Germany, U.K., U.S.A. and Australia, and was supported by a tour run that included over 80 performances across three continents, and slots at festivals such as Rock en Seine, Lowlands and Sziget.
Their hit single, ‘One By One’ off the album Into The Dojo was written by ex-band member and co-founder of Flight Of The Conchords Bret McKenzie, and was featured in AMC’s smash hit Breaking Bad and included on that show’s Official Soundtrack. The Black Seeds’ music has also been featured in numerous other TV shows and movies including Weeds, Disney’s Eight Below, and The Inbetweeners II.

As The Black Seeds put the finishing touches on their new album, the band stresses that they focus a lot of energy on their live show. Weir says, "We've got our own specific South Pacific flavor that you wouldn't have heard before." If that's true, you're sure to hear it now, as The Black Seeds continue to reach new audiences the world over the same way they always have – by doing it their own way.

Do not miss The Black Seeds Live in concert in June 2017 as they return to U.S shores for the first time since 2012.
